Car sharing is when two or more people share a car and travel together. It allows people to benefit from the convenience of the car, whilst alleviating the associated problems of parking, congestion and pollution.
Thorpe Park have teamed up with liftshare.com to bring the latest in car sharing technology to the business park. The private group allows all staff based at Thorpe Park to search for others who are making the journey to the business park by car, with results displayed on a user friendly map.
All you need to do is register with the scheme, enter your postcode and the times you usually travel, and the website will tell you who else is making a similar journey that you could potentially car share with.
So far over 200 staff have registered with the scheme, but the more people who register, the better the scheme will be.
Many assume that by registering with the scheme they are making a commitment to car share. This isn't correct!
The Thorpe Park Car Share Scheme simply provides a tool which allows members to search for others who are making a similar journey to their own. It therefore simply puts people in touch with each other (via a secure online message portal), allowing the individuals to then decide whether or not a car share arrangement would be beneficial.
Another common misconception is that car sharing is something which you must do every day. Again, this is wrong!
If you do find a car share buddy it's completely up to you to decide when you share your journey to work. It could be every day, but it could be once a week, once a month, or on the odd occasion when you don't have your car available.
Basically, you can make car sharing work for you by coming to an arrangement which suits your own personal circumstances. And if you find it doesn't work, then hey ho, that's just the way things go. At least you gave it a try.
