The government has set up a grant scheme, to support organisations wishing to install EV charging points at their workplace. As detailed below, organisations can receive up to £350 towards the cost of installing each charge point.
Leeds City Council have also gone one step further, by setting up a ‘top up’ grant scheme of their own. Businesses in Leeds can apply for a limited number of top-up grants for up to £1000, to help with installation costs. To qualify for this grant you will need to:
- qualify for the government’e grant;
- take part in the LCC electric vehicle trails
If you are interested in the LCC grant you should get in touch with them at firstname.lastname@example.org
Government Grants and Incentives
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme designed to provide eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations with support towards the upfront cost of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints. The contribution is limited to 75% of purchase and installation costs, up to a maximum of £350 for each socket, up to a maximum of 40 across all sites for each applicant.
Applicants will apply for the scheme using the online application portal, which can be found here. If eligibility checks are successful, applicants will be issued with a unique identification voucher code via email, which can then be given to any OLEV-authorised WCS installer, a list of which can be found here.
The voucher will be valid for four months (120 days) from the date of issue, (expiry date printed on the voucher). Once the chargepoint(s) have been installed, the authorised installer will claim the grant from OLEV on the applicant’s behalf through the online installer portal. The system will calculate the 75% of the declared purchase and installation costs and confirm the exact value of the grant awarded, which will be capped at a maximum of £350 per socket. The chargepoint installation must be completed and the voucher claimed within the four-month period. Claims against expired vouchers will not be paid.
Home Charging Grant Scheme
If you own an electric vehicle, or are thinking about making the switch, you can also receive a grant towards the cost of a home vehicle charging point. Find out more here.
