£17.5m funding has been given to the Leeds City Region from the Government for businesses to invest in workforce skills.

Support is available under the new Employer Ownership of Skills pilot to help small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to grow.

The money is available to SMEs in grants of between £500 and £50,000 to invest in the skills of their workforce.

The aim is to address skills shortages in key sectors which offer the greatest opportunities for economic and employment growth, such as manufacturing; construction, digital, hospitality and medical technology

How will this benefit your business?

The LEP skills service will help your business identify the skills your workforce needs, based on business growth objectives,  and then find the right training solution.

This could involve developing the skills of your workforce or providing tailored training or even designing a new course.

To be eligible for funding your business must

  • be based in the Leeds City Region
  • employ fewer than 250 people and have an annual turnover of less than £40million
  • be in one of the priority sectors
  • be able to provide a contribution to the cost of training, as a minimum 50%
