Car Free Day: Small Changes, Big Impact

This month, many across the UK are taking part in World Car Free Day – an annual event that encourages us to leave the car at home and explore more sustainable ways to travel. This year, the event falls on Monday 22nd September. For those of us working at Thorpe Park Leeds, it’s a great opportunity to rethink our daily commute and make small changes that benefit both the environment and our wellbeing.

Why go car free? Transport is one of the largest sources of carbon emissions, and reducing car use, even for a single day, helps cut pollution, ease traffic, and create cleaner, safer spaces. For individuals, it can also mean saving money on fuel and parking, and fitting more activity into the day.

Here are a few ways you can get involved this Car Free Day:

  • Car share with colleagues – If you can’t go fully car free, sharing a lift reduces the number of vehicles on the road and makes commuting more social.
  • Cycle or walk – For those living closer by, active travel is a healthy, low-cost option. Why not buddy up with a colleague and cycle in together?
  • Use public transportBus service 164 and 165 operate through Thorpe Park Leeds. Car Free Day is the perfect excuse to give it a try.
  • Mix it up – Try parking further away and walking the last 10 minutes, or perhaps you could cycle part of the journey?

Workplaces can support by organising a “cycle breakfast,” offering incentives for sustainable travel, or setting up a friendly challenge to see which team can log the most car-free journeys.

Let the ParkLife team know if you’ve got plans for Car Free Day this year, we’d love to share your success stories!
