Get your workplace walking with Walking Works

Want a simple, free way to help your team feel healthier, happier and more connected?

Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking, has partnered with West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) to bring its Walking Works programme to workplaces across West Yorkshire.

Funded by WYCA until March 2027, the programme is completely free for participating workplaces and is designed to make it easier, and more enjoyable for employees to build more walking into their working day.

44 businesses across Leeds are already taking part. Could your workplace be next?

Why sign up?

Walking Works gives businesses an easy way to encourage healthier habits without the need for expensive equipment, gym memberships or a major time commitment. Taking part can help to:

  • Support employee wellbeing – encouraging people to get moving, spend time outdoors and take a break from their screens.
  • Bring colleagues together – friendly challenges give teams something fun and inclusive to get involved in.
  • Encourage a more active working day – helping employees build movement into everyday routines.
  • Boost engagement and motivation – a shared challenge can create conversation, friendly competition and a sense of achievement.
  • Support your sustainability goals – encouraging walking can help start conversations around active and more sustainable travel.
  • Access a fully funded programme – there’s no cost to your workplace, and activities can be tailored to suit your team.

What does it involve?

Participating workplaces can take part in a 4–5 week Staff Challenge, tailored to the needs of their organisation.

Choose from a month-long step challenge or a series of weekly walking challenges, designed to inspire colleagues to move more and make walking part of their everyday working lives.

Whether you have a team of keen walkers or colleagues who simply want to become a little more active, the programme is designed to be accessible and achievable.
