The Great British Spring Clean

Could you be a #LitterHero?

Back for its eighth year, The Great British Spring Clean aims to clean up our environment. The 2023 event will run from 17th March to 2nd April and you can sign up as an individual or a group to pick up as much litter as you can over the week.

The campaign from Keep Britain Tidy believes that everyone deserves to live in a community they can be proud of, however, sadly just 43% of UK adults currently agree that they feel proud of their community.

Every year, it is estimated that 8 million tonnes of litter enters the world’s oceans. Not only does this have a negative impact on marine wildlife, but it also breaks down and enters the food chain. Litter can also affect land animals too and many suffer injuries from waste that hasn’t been disposed of properly.

Each individual act to protect the environment makes a different, but when we call come together, the difference we can make is huge.

Top tips to help you get started litter picking:

• Wear gloves – It is recommended that you wear some heavy duty gloves and use a litter picker if possible. Don’t scoop up litter with your hands as you don’t know what is hidden away.

• Make sure you wash your hands after litter picking.

• Litter picking can be much more fun with others. Why not organise a small group of friends and colleagues? You can then tackle the problem together.

• If you can, try to recycle as much of the litter picked as possible.

If you would like to get involved during March, either as a business or an individual get in touch with the ParkLife team as we would love to bring people together across Thorpe Park. Also, if you need equipment to get yourself started, we can supply some litter picks to help get you on your way.
